Simplifying My Life & Maximizing My Impact

Introduction

I want to talk about efficiency. More than writing code, what I actually like is understanding a need and finding a solution that fits it. That instinct is what pushed me into AI tooling: I’ve been using AI to speed up my own workflow, and this post is about what I built and what it got me.

What I’ve built so far

The chatbot (my first AI app). The problem was a giant wall of text. Everything about me had to live somewhere on this website, and nobody reads a wall of text. So I built a chatbot people can talk to instead, either to get a frequently asked question answered or just to poke around and see what I’ve done.

That project opened Pandora’s box for me. It also means my site has something on it that isn’t the generic “send me an email.” It showed me I could build with AI, not just use it.

The resume and cover letter generator. Updating a resume and writing a tailored cover letter used to eat my whole evening. Hunting for the right keywords, reformatting, rephrasing, all of it. That’s time not spent applying or building.

So I built a small app. You give it a job description (paste a link or the text itself) plus your current resume, and it generates a revised resume, markdown only for now. It pulls out keywords, surfaces the relevant skills, and suggests phrasing that makes the application land better. Then I can add anything the resume left out that I want in the cover letter, and it takes all three inputs (the listing, the resume, and my extra notes) and writes one.

It cut my application time by roughly 70%. That’s the number that made me keep using it.

Next up: social media formatting. Sharing blog posts is still a manual slog. Reformatting, writing captions, scheduling. I’m building something to convert long blog posts into formats optimized for social. It’s forcing me to think harder about how the same content has to change shape depending on where it lands.

Further out: something for small businesses. AI is coming for a lot of jobs. Some markets will hold out longer than others, but the businesses that adopt early get the upper hand. I want to build something that keeps small businesses from getting squeezed out by corporations with much deeper pockets. When that works, the customers win too, not just the business.

What this taught me

On the technical side: working with AI models, API integration, and designing and building applications around them.

On everything else: problem solving, self-motivation, project management, and adaptability.

For an employer, the practical version is that I can automate repetitive work, cut lead time, and build the tools that do it.

Wrapping up

AI isn’t a buzzword to me, it’s a thing I use every day that changed how I work. I’d like to bring that experience, plus a solid web development foundation, to a team. I pick things up fast and I’m looking forward to whatever’s next.
